Bio
My name is Sylvain Barrier, 37 years old, born in Oyonnax, France.
My path has been anything but linear, and that is probably what makes it my greatest strength.
I do not come from a family of motorcyclists.
My parents ran a pizzeria/bar/restaurant in France, until the day they sold everything and moved to Mauritius. There, they created a leisure complex with a karting track, quad area, restaurant and nightclub.
I touched a kart for the first time at 14. Fun… but not decisive.
Everything changed when a friend let me try his motorcycle.
⚡ Revelation.
“Dad, I want to be a motorcycle racer!”
To which he replied, “That’s not a job.”
A year later, I took part in a 50cc endurance race against South Africa and Réunion.
Spotted, I left for a year and a half in South Africa, where I won my first races.
Returned to Mauritius, then moved permanently to Paris at 16 to race in 1000cc Promosport thanks to Pierrot Lerat Vanstaen.
From there, everything accelerated:
William Costes – BMC – Morillas – Sarron – MG Compétition – Dark Dog Academy – World Superstock
The victories came, then podiums, then titles.
The dream took shape.
But behind the record, there were also crashes, frustrating seasons, injuries, bad decisions.
I sometimes lacked structure, guidance and mental support.
Looking back, I know I had the ability to go even further. And perhaps MotoGP was not that far away.
But regrets are useless unless they fuel something greater.
I chose to turn my mistakes into experience.
My doubts into method.
My career into transmission.
For the rest of my career, you can find it here.
SB Coaching
When I am asked about my strengths and weaknesses, the answer is the same:
I don’t set limits for myself.
Life already does that enough for us.
After 20 years of career, the question of what comes next inevitably arose.
And the answer came naturally: to share, to transmit, to guide — but in my own way.
Not just riding coaching. Not just mental coaching.
A complete, 360° approach, shaped by the real experience of a world-level rider.
That’s how SB Coaching was born, and for 3 years now, I have been developing this project with a simple conviction:
That my riders go further than I did.
Faster. Better. With fewer doubts and fewer mistakes.
I now work with several riding schools and Trackday organizers, on more and more circuits.
The goal: to offer you a complete experience, not just a few track sessions.
An SB20-style coaching means:
• support from 7 a.m., warm-up & physical preparation
• a full day of riding with intercom guidance, onboard camera debrief, trajectory & posture analysis
• stretching & recovery at the end of the day
• ultimate goal → progress quickly, cleanly and confidently
Some services are still evolving, others are coming soon — I am building all of this step by step, with passion.
As in my early days, encounters shape what comes next: partners, riders, ambitious projects. All of them fuel this vision : offering truly different coaching.
If you want to join the experience, just send a message.
